Why Wastewater Matters

There is a vast network under our feet that collects the wastewater we generate in our homes and businesses.  This water must be treated before it is released in order to protect public health and the environment.  The critical infrastructure that provides this service is “out-of-sight / out-of-mind” and we generally don’t think about it until something goes wrong.  However, with increasing pressure from a growing population, the need to maintain nutrient balance in the environment, and “contaminants of emerging concern”, such as micro-plastics and PFAS (aka “forever chemicals), we are no longer served by this “flush it and forget it” mindset.

Come learn about wastewater collection and treatment systems with Dan Marks.  Dan is the Wastewater Superintendent for the Town of Falmouth. Prior to working for Falmouth, Dan worked for 12 years as an engineering consultant for wastewater utilities around New England, helping to design and construct wastewater infrastructure around the region. Dan lives in North Yarmouth with his family.
