Event Details
Dr. Susana Hancock is an interdisciplinary polar climate researcher whose research encompasses social and natural sciences in the Arctic and other glaciated regions of the world, such as the Andes and Himalayas. A former international elite rower, she now meets her athletic cravings by skiing across polar ice sheets and glaciers during which she collects data in conjunction with global research institutions. When not in the field, she works with the UN and governments around the world to ensure the latest climate science is understood by relevant parties and is at the heart of international climate negotiations.
She is the Global Mountains Director with the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, has been Science Manager for Arctic Basecamp, the past president of the international Association for Polar Early Career Scientists, is a contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and is a co-founder of the international next-generation Science Diplomats committee.
Susana will join us via Zoom from Europe having just finished the COP29 UN Climate Conference. With a skew toward the glaciated regions on the planet, she will talk about the interrelation between global geopolitics and climate change.
